Stay Ahead in B2B Marketing: Unveil the Magic of Audience Nurturing Loops

+ Why I'm Bullish on Tech Transformation + VC's Take on Having a Board

I was born in the 80s in India!

My primary school tuition was just 15 Indian Rupees a month – that's only about $0.18 today. It's astonishing when I think about it now!

In fifth grade, I achieved something pretty remarkable.

Out of 14,000 kids, I ranked 202 to enter a prestigious military boarding school, almost fully funded by the Indian government. That year, only 340 of us made the cut.

The journey there was extraordinary – I took a bold step in fifth grade, leaving regular school to join a coaching center. For six months, I dedicated seven hours a day, solely focusing on taking that entrance exam.

My uncle, a retired military officer, was my hero. I was inspired to walk in his footsteps, aiming to join the military and attend the same boarding school he did.

Spoiler Alert: My path took a different turn, and I didn't end up in the military.

Boarding school life from 1995 to 1999 was a unique experience. The main way we communicated with family was through handwritten letters sent via postal mail.

We eagerly awaited our turn at the school's only public phone booth every other month to hear our parents. It was a time in India when connectivity was a luxury, and mobile networks were merely a dream.

Then came the incredible Indian technological revolution!

Suddenly, it seemed like everyone had a Nokia phone.

This tech wave was a great equalizer – from street vendors to CEOs, mobile phones became a ubiquitous part of life.

Between 2005 and 2017, India's mobile sector added a billion subscribers, laying the foundation for a digital leap. Today, two-thirds of India's internet traffic is mobile-driven.

The absence of certain infrastructures didn't stop companies like InMobi from becoming the world's leading mobile analytics startup.

Flipkart, a homegrown e-commerce giant, didn't rely on government policies or cheap capital to challenge Amazon – and succeeded, with Walmart acquiring a significant stake in it.

Ola, an answer to Uber, didn't wait for labor law reforms to forge ahead.

This new digital economy isn't just about competing on cost. It's about innovation and breaking barriers.

The world's top companies by market capitalization are all tech-driven, showing the immense power of the digital economy.

Witnessing these monumental changes in my lifetime fills me with optimism. I'm excited to see how technology will continue to shape our lives, proving that it truly is a leveler in society.

The future is bright, and I can't wait to see what's next! πŸŒŸπŸš€πŸ“±

Interesting Thing That I Read This Week

Tweet That I Noticed This Week

Great post by Amish who is VC at FirstMark. A few points that really stood out for me -

πŸ‘‰ πŸ‘‰ Founders "protect" themselves by choosing whose capital they take (who they give fractional ownership) and which Board members they select in that process. If you don't want a Board, you bootstrap the business and not rely on external capital.

The board's role is to optimize for the Company, not for one's own interest, not for an Executive, not for a philosophy. πŸ”₯πŸ”₯πŸ”₯

🌟🌟 Founders taking capital will by definition be constructing Boards. And if you are constructing Boards, you are getting opinions that lead to decisions. Make sure you are bringing the board members with the right experience.
